Repacking Rock Band?

I'm moving to a different city in a few weeks and I'm trying to re-pack my Rock Band instruments. The drums fit fine but when I slide the guitar into its original box, the neck (where you tune the ''strings'') sticks out a few inches, and it's impossible to fit in the original Special Edition box. Am I doing something wrong? Is the neck supposed to come off somehow? I can't imagine how else it would fit in this box.Repacking Rock Band?

The top of mine has a small button on the back so the top part comes off.
After searching the internet for it, it turns out that when the bundle first came out, the guitar's head wasn't on. After you slide it on, it clicks and locks into place and it's impossible to take off. I ended up find a mod that allows you to easily slide the head on and off after taking out two small metal clips inside of the head of the guitar.
