Just got xbl

So whats with the map packs? Is it if you don't buy it your practically screwed on 2/3 of your MP game? I could only do a few matchmaking options halo3 since I didn't buy the mappacks and gears 2 would not find anyone and I assume its beacuse I do not have the new maps either. Is it just me or is this a total MS joke? I'm more of a PC gamer and use to getting my content for free.. but this is just ridiculous? Just got xbl

Map packs have there own playlists and if you have the maps but are playing other playlists they will still show up if everyone that gets matched has them.As far as Halo 3, that is fairly new and most people are mad about it.Just got xbl
You get 100% of your multiplayer game with the retail discIf you choose to enhance it with downloadable map packs (either free or paid for) that's your choiceIf you have an issue with it just do what others do and don't purchase the content and use the standard maps that come with the game.

Halo 3 is still enjoyable, I just wish I could do more than a couple of game modes. -_-
Depends on the game. In Halo 3 you have access to certain playlist depends on whats maps you have. You obviously have access to more of match making with more maps but you still have some playlist if you don't have any of the map packs that cost money. Be sure to at least download Cold Storage and Heroic, they are free. If you plan to buy ODST you should be happy to know it'll come with all Halo 3 maps.



With Call of Duty 4 and World at War you have access to all of matchmaking, but if you don't have the map the match takes place on you get booted from the match and you have to restart matchmaking search.



With Gear of War 2 there are separate playlists for DLC. And if you're wondering, all DLC is free for the original Gears of War.



I couldn't really tell how it works for any other games.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. The developer worked on a product, they deserve payment. I think ten dollars for only three maps is a bit much though. That much I think is screwed up.
