i bought myfriends xbox across the street and i was wondering if this was possible. he said that when he bought in around january that he registered it under his name so i was wondering if i can do it with my name instead? do i need his information as well to justify it wasent stolen?
Not sure how they transfer the serial number over, but I'm sure that they do somehow just gonna have to send them a message or call.can i re register a console with microso ...
I've actually been wondering about how to do this online myself since I sold an older 360 to my friend. I came up with this, but I was hoping to find a faster way to do it online without having to deal with anyone on the phone.

What happens when you put in an existing serial number to be registered on your account?

I have no idea honestly. The only thing that thread in my link talks about is calling them about the issue. I do remember when the 360 first came out it would keep giving me a message saying ''this 360 is already registered'' (apparently I had registered it without remembering) so I guess it wouldn't let you do anything.
I've been through this before. whenI called in to register the used console they said it was already registered. I explained that i had made a trade for the console and that it was mine now. They will change it to you but make sure that your friends really bought it and didn't steal it because even though they'll change it to your name they still send a ticket to microsoft headquarters to make sure there's no stolen record with that serial number on it. I had no problem, so as long as it really did belong to whom you got it from, just call and it only takes like 3 minutes maximum.

all i did with mine is erase the old info and just use mine. just another user i guess. it actually never even was an issue once i figured out the profile thing. i actually beat a few games on the old owners profile until i figured i could auto-in with mine. then i just erased his stuff and some of mine. i never tried to get on his live account though, i just started one for me.
