i mean seriously how strong can a gun be??? in my opinion, when you start out with the gun that either trumps and or stalemates most weapons in the game there is a problem. For instance, i was playing a simple ffa slayer with the assault rifle as starting weapon. After witnessing the initial shotgun killing sprees and sniping everyone turned to the assault rifle as usual. after a few mindless kills with the AR and a couple bad spawn positions in which my back was to the enemy, i decided to try to dual wield some spikers... fail! It wasnt even funny how fast i died when facing a guy with the assault rifle. Angered i tried again, surely bungie wouldnt make dual wielding completely pointless would they? well i did get a kill but met a similar fate as before yet again against the AR. Now some of you may think, ''Ah hes just a noob. '' Well i may not be a general but I have played my fair share of Halo 3; check out my service record if you dont believe me. no plasma rifle + SMG works better



either way the best weapon combination is the BR + AR unless you can use the sniper effectively

That's true but I was strictly talking about machineguns. :P The AR really isn't that great of a weapon it's only alright.
The AR is anything but overpowered. If you're going to dual-wield you need to know the best combos, like Plasma Rifle - SMG, or Plasma Pistol - Magnum.
fair enough, good dual wield combos are better than the AR, but how many times does those combinations really beat the AR? idk im just fed up with games consisting of mindlessly shooting the ar for two seconds, melee, repeat.

Not to start something but if you're getting tired of getting picked off all the time by the AR then it sure isn't because that gun is amazing... If you have a BR in your hands and know where the head is, no one should even get close enough to kill you with the AR
Wait, why are you complaining? Since it is overpowered (in your opinion), why don't you just use it more? It is the default weapon (and the most common weapon on most maps) after all...
yea the AR is terrible compared to the BR and most duel wielding combos. Just keep your distance if u keep getting AR'ed

Good advice right there. :D You have to keep your distance. Oh and fight the urge to go in for a melee attack xD That's what probably killing you from Assault Rifles.

Bungie doesn't know what there doing any more there to busy counting money. I hate how the BR is king ding a ling. Halo3 fell out of favor with the 90 plus people on my FL with the exception of 1. (now its COD4 or Basketball or you play alone) ODST... no. Reach... hopefully. Bungie should pass on the reins, there kind stale these days. They need to release a non FPS titles or anything non-Halo. Get the creative juices flowing again.
I hate the AR...not because I think it's overpowered, but because I feel that it's underpowered. The clip is too shallow and it's terrible to use at a medium distance because the clip runs out too quickly. I'd much rather have the smg as my default.

Hell, using one SMG in the fashion most people use the assault rifle is more effective. The assault rifle is a well rounded weapon but it's certainly no king of all trades. Sniper and beam rifles are better at long range. Battle rifle, carbine and pistol are better at mid range and the shotgun, mauler, SMG, Sword, hammer, Brute shot and spiker are better at closer ranges. The missile pod, spartan laser and rocket launcher are better at taking out vehicles(and more if you use em' right). the plasma pistol and plasma rifle are good for taking out shields, the former can stop a vehile in it's tracks with an over charged shot. And the Needler is deadly in tight spaces.



The assault rifle is a reliable weapon and a good weapon for less experienced player. But it's easily replaceable, especially considering the fashion most players use it.
The assault rifle sucks.All it takes is 4 shots w/ a BR and you're dead.
